Friends of the Earth intervention, March 3, 2008, with the South Carolina Public Service Commission, against "preconstruction costs" for planned new nuclear reactors by Duke Energy in Cherokee, S.C. Latest estimates are that the reactors could cost from $5-$9 billion each, though Duke has so far refused to reveal how much rate-payer money it plans to spend. A hearing will be held on the matter on April 17 iat the PSC in Columbia, S.C.
